Field Notes from India, Part 2: Slitting Trials, Operator Training and Handover

Our first field note from India ended with the slitting line powered up and preparations under way for the first cutting programme. The next stage brought the customer’s operators to the machine: training began on 30 September, a slitting trial was recorded on 3 October, and the on-site service record was signed on 7 October.

The project is an SRZJ-1250C silicon steel slitting line for Antelp Corporation Pvt Ltd. at its plant in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. This follow-up follows the work from commissioning through operator training and the documented handover.

From power-on to slitting trials

The team reported power-on on 26 September. Over the following days, work moved to knife setup, operator familiarisation and preparation for trial cutting. By 3 October, the team was sharing video of the line running with material.

The training material prepared for this project connects trial cutting with the checks that follow it: slit-strip width, cut-edge condition, burr inspection and the condition of the rewound coils. These are separate topics in the operating sequence, rather than a single instruction to start the line.

Training on the machine the operators will use

Operator training started on 30 September. The site photographs show the SREE team working with the customer’s staff beside the line, linking the explanations to the equipment in front of them.

The team also prepared a bilingual Chinese-English operating transcript and a training-video outline for the project. The written material covers:

• Power-on checks and knife arrangement.
• Mother-coil loading, threading and trial cutting.
• Strip-width and burr inspection before normal production.
• Rewinding, knife replacement and routine maintenance.

This gives the customer a written reference alongside the on-site explanations. The value is in connecting the whole sequence: setting up the knives, handling the material, checking the cut strips and looking after the line between production runs.

What the handover record confirms

The customer review took place on 5 October. The on-site service record signed on 7 October marks four items as completed: installation, commissioning, operator training and handover of standard accessories.

From the line standing on its foundation on 17 September to the signed service record on 7 October, these project milestones span about three calendar weeks. That is the elapsed project period, rather than a count of engineer working days.

Planning the next installation

This project shows why an installation plan needs time for both the equipment and the people who will operate it. Power-on, material trials, operator training and written handover are distinct milestones. Preparing the operating documents while the engineers are still on site helps connect those stages.
